Users lose ability to play Assassin’s Creed 2 Mon, 08 Mar 2010 09:37:00 +1100

Well the game stopper has happened. Due to the always online DRM incorporated into the PC sequel of this game, if you could not connect to the internet and/or connect to the authentication servers, you could not play the game, even in single player mode. The Ubisoft servers were overloaded that much that they were down for long periods of time and still seem to be having issues. Even booting up the game takes forever, if you actually could get into the game. On the forums over at Ubisoft, a representative has replied to all the angry posts by saying; “Clearly the extended downtime and lengthy login issues are unacceptable, particularly as I've been told these servers are constantly monitored. I'll do what I can to get more information on what the issue is here first thing tomorrow and push for a resolution and assurance this won't happen in the future."

Has this personally happened to you or someone you know? Will Ubisoft remove this DRM in future games?

Nvidia is on fire Mon, 08 Mar 2010 08:59:00 +1100

I also do mean this heading literally. Nvidia is recalling 3D drivers due to overheating risk with the latest drivers that came out on the 2nd of March. There is a problem with the fan control in the firmware which can lead to overheating and damage to the graphics card and/or computer. If you have the 196.75 drivers, you're encouraged to revert back to version 196.21 while Nvidia tracks down the problem.

Do you know of anyone who has had problems after updating these drivers?

55,000 submissions for R18+ discussion paper Fri, 05 Mar 2010 09:37:00 +1100

Well ladies, gentleman and gamers, that brings a close to submitting submission papers on the topic of whether Australia should have a R18+ rating systems for games. With over 55,000 submissions handed in, the unenviable position of writing the report goes to the federal Attorney-General's Department based on the responses and wait for the outcome of the meeting to discuss whether the laws should be changed. Now we just have to wait and hopefully get the green light to play R18+ games.

Do you think Australia will get an R18+ rating for games within Australia?
